A Bosch washer that stops mid-cycle isn’t malfunctioning randomly — it’s almost always a safety system doing exactly what it’s designed to do in response to a specific fault. Here’s how to read what’s happening.
Drainage Is the Most Common Cause
If your washer stops with a tub full of water and won’t spin, drainage is the most likely cause, typically showing as E13 or the very common E18 error code. This usually means a blocked filter, pump, or hose is preventing water from leaving the drum.
A Leak Alert Will Also Stop the Cycle
If your washer stops and the door won’t unlock at all, check for an E23 AquaStop alert — this means the machine has detected a possible leak and shut off the water supply as a precaution. Don’t force the door; turn off the water valve and call for service.
What You Can Safely Check
Before calling, it’s safe to check that the drain hose behind the machine isn’t kinked, and that you haven’t used an unusually large amount of detergent, which can cause suds lock and trigger a drainage timeout on its own.
Next Steps
If clearing the filter doesn’t resolve it, the issue is likely a failing pump or a genuine leak, both of which need a technician. Visit our washer repair page to book a visit.
