What E18 Means
E18 (also shown as F18) is one of the most common Bosch washer codes — it means there's no drainage happening at all, and water is stuck in the tub.
Common Causes of E18
- Blocked drain filter (coins, buttons, small objects)
- Damaged or faulty drain pump
- Kinked or clogged drain hose
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Locate the drain filter access panel at the bottom-front of the machine, place a shallow towel-lined tray underneath, and check for coins, buttons, or lint clogging the filter — this resolves a large share of E18 cases.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The filter housing holds residual water under pressure — opening it without a tray and a slow release can flood the surrounding floor.
- Forcing a jammed filter cap can crack the plastic threading, turning a five-minute clean into a full housing replacement.
- If the filter is clear, the pump itself carries line voltage; testing it live is a genuine shock risk.
- A pump reinstalled with the impeller misaligned can seize on the first cycle, causing a louder, more expensive failure.
- Pump access beyond the filter is one of the most common ways this warranty gets voided on front-load washers.
