What E126 Means
E126 on a Bosch range means the control has lost the signal from the switch that reports where the oven door latch is. Unable to tell locked from unlocked, Bosch disables all heating elements, and the manual states the error can only be cleared by a software reset. The checks listed are the switch connections, the wiring back to the control module, and the switch operation itself.
Common Causes of E126
- Latch position switch failed or out of adjustment
- Broken wire between the latch switch and the control module
- Loose connector at the latch assembly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cut power at the breaker for two minutes to perform the reset the manual calls for. Note whether the range comes back fully or returns to the same code, because that difference decides whether this was a one-off or a failed switch.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- All heating elements are disabled, so the oven is unusable and, on electric and induction models, the surface may be too.
- The latch and switch sit in the range frame behind the fascia; on a gas model the appliance gas valve must be shut off before working there.
- A switch replaced without checking its adjustment reports the same ambiguous position as the one it replaced.
- The wiring Bosch asks to check runs through the hottest part of the frame, where heat-damaged insulation is easy to miss.
