What E106 Means

E106 is logged when the oven asks the door latch to lock and cannot confirm that it did. Bosch gives the timing: the latch fails to lock within one minute and further attempts stop. The error is cancelled and normal operation resumes if a locked door is no longer needed, which is why it often appears when a self-clean cycle is started and then abandons itself.

Common Causes of E106

  • Latch motor or its switch failed
  • Obstruction preventing the door closing fully square
  • Wiring fault between the control board and the latch assembly

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Check the door gasket and the latch recess for baked-on debris that stops the door pulling fully home, and confirm nothing on the racks is holding the door a millimetre open. A door that cannot close square is a door the latch cannot engage.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The latch assembly lives in the top of the oven frame behind the control panel, reached by pulling the appliance out and taking the front apart.
  • Bosch's check sequence covers the latch motor, its switch, the wiring and the door switch, and each is eliminated in turn rather than replaced on a hunch.
  • A latch forced by hand bends the strike plate, after which the door neither locks nor seals correctly.
  • Self-clean depends on this latch working, so an oven that cannot lock should not be put through a clean cycle to test it.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E106 FAQ

Usually yes. Bosch notes the error clears when a locked door is no longer required, so ordinary cooking often continues while self-clean does not.

Because that is when the oven needs the latch. Normal baking does not lock the door, so a failed latch goes unnoticed until a clean cycle asks for it.
