What E115 Means
E115 means the oven cavity of a Bosch range went above its allowable temperature while the door was unlocked, so the range stopped heating and locked the door itself. Heating resumes and the latch releases once the temperature returns to range. Bosch's action list names element operation, sensor resistance and stuck relays, which together describe a cavity heating without being asked to.
Common Causes of E115
- Oven heating relay welded closed on the control module
- Cavity sensor reading low so the control keeps calling for heat
- Element or burner control fault producing uncontrolled heating
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the range off at the breaker rather than only at the controls, and on a gas or dual fuel model close the appliance gas shut-off valve as well. A stuck relay keeps a circuit energised regardless of what the front panel shows.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A relay stuck closed cannot be stopped from the front panel, which is why the breaker and, on a fuel-burning model, the gas shut-off are the correct responses.
- The oven locked its own door because the cavity was outside safe range, so the door and its glass will be extremely hot.
- On a range the control module also coordinates the cooking surface, so a relay fault is a reason to distrust the whole appliance until it is checked.
- Restarting to see whether it repeats invites uncontrolled heating in a kitchen nobody is watching.
