What E005 Means
E005 on a Bosch range is a loss of communication between the user interface and the control module. Because a slide-in range runs both the oven cavity and the electric ignition or induction surface through the same control architecture, a break in that link can leave the front panel showing a display while nothing responds. Bosch's actions are to look for cut or pinched wires and loose connectors and to confirm voltage is arriving at the correct pins.

- Harness between the user interface and control module pinched or broken
- Loose connector behind the control fascia
- Supply voltage not reaching the correct pins on one of the boards
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Try a two-minute breaker reset, which clears a communication drop caused by a surge. Note whether the burners or surface elements behave differently from the oven afterwards, since that tells the technician which side of the appliance lost contact.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a gas range the control fascia sits directly above the burner valves, so the gas supply has to be shut off at the appliance shut-off before any work starts behind it.
- The harness in question runs beside line-voltage conductors, and confusing the two while tracing has consequences well beyond a lost signal.
- A harness that only fails once the range warms up will test perfectly cold, so a bench check proves little.
- A slide-in range has to be drawn forward to reach the rear of the control area, which on a gas model means the flexible connector moves with it.
