What E122 Means
E122 means the meat probe is reading hotter than the control will accept, and the oven stops heating until the probe is taken out. Bosch's first suggested check is revealing: confirm with the user whether the probe was plugged in but left lying in the cavity rather than pushed into food. A probe sitting in open oven air reaches cavity temperature quickly, which is exactly the over-range reading this code describes.

- Probe element failed and reading high
- Damaged probe lead or dirty receptacle contacts
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take the probe out of the socket and out of the oven, then start a normal bake. If the oven heats correctly without it, the probe or the way it was being used is the whole story and you may not need a visit at all.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The probe is hot enough to have triggered an over-range reading, so it needs handling with an oven glove rather than bare fingers.
- Bosch asks technicians to check how the probe was used before testing anything, which means the fault is often not a fault at all.
- Probe resistance checks compare against a published value, so a reading on its own does not prove the probe has failed.
- If the probe is genuinely good, the fault is in the receptacle or its wiring, which is inside the cavity wall.
