What E:02 Means
E:02 is the code Bosch uses when the heating side of the machine is still electrically connected but is not behaving safely, and the dishwasher carries on washing in cold water instead. The service chart points at four things: a stuck or failed heater relay, a ground fault at the heat pump heater, a ground fault at the zeolite drying heater on models fitted with one, or a failed zeolite heater relay.
Common Causes of E:02
- Heat pump heater relay stuck or burned out
- Ground fault in the heat pump heater element
- Ground fault or failed relay in the zeolite drying heater circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
There is no safe home test here. A ground fault means current is finding a path it should not, and confirming that needs insulation measurement on a fully isolated machine rather than a visual check.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A ground fault is current leaking to metal that should be dead, and the tub of a dishwasher is wet metal you stand in front of barefoot.
- Bosch's own instruction for two of these causes is to replace the sealed zeolite container, which is not a part that can be opened and repaired at the sink.
- Two of the four listed causes sit in the power module and two sit in heating components, and telling them apart needs resistance figures published for your exact model.
- Dismantling the base to reach either the module or the heater may affect remaining coverage on a newer dishwasher, so read your terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
