How to Clean a Bosch Dishwasher Filter (Step-by-Step)

A five-minute filter cleaning routine is the single most effective thing you can do to prevent drainage faults and keep your Bosch dishwasher running well.

Cleaning your Bosch dishwasher’s filter is the single highest-value maintenance task you can do yourself — it takes about five minutes and prevents the majority of drainage-related service calls we see, including the common E24 error code.

Step 1: Locate the Filter

Remove the lower dish rack and look at the bottom of the tub. The filter assembly is the round, twist-out component in the center-back or corner of the tub floor, usually with an arrow or icon indicating the unlock direction.

Step 2: Remove and Rinse

Twist the filter counter-clockwise (check your model’s markings) and lift it out. Rinse both the coarse upper filter and fine lower filter under running water, using a soft brush to dislodge stuck-on food particles.

Step 3: Check the Sump Area

With the filter removed, glance into the sump opening for any visible debris — glass shards, produce stickers, and bones are common culprits that don’t always rinse out of the filter itself.

Step 4: Reinstall Correctly

Reinsert the filter and twist it fully back into the locked position. An improperly seated filter can itself cause wash-performance issues, so make sure you feel it click or stop firmly.

How Often Should You Do This?

We recommend checking the filter monthly for most households, and more frequently if you don’t pre-rinse dishes before loading. For anything beyond the filter — like a persistent E25 pump fault — book a dishwasher repair visit.

Not Confident Doing This Yourself?

A factory-trained technician can diagnose and fix it safely, usually same-day.
