What E-11 Means
On a Bosch over-the-range microwave, the service manual's fault code list defines E-04 and E-11, and E-11 is recorded there as a key shorted for one minute. In other words a control key has read as continuously pressed for sixty seconds and the appliance has flagged it. This is the over-the-range platform's definition; the plain E11 shown on other Bosch microwave generations is documented separately and means something different.

- Object leaning against the control panel
- Failed keypad membrane
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wipe the keypad with a barely damp cloth and dry it, and check nothing is resting against the panel. On an over-the-range model the fascia collects grease from the cooking surface below it, which is the usual reason a key reads as held.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The high-voltage capacitor behind the control panel of a microwave stays charged after the appliance is disconnected.
- Prying at the keypad membrane to clean behind it tears it, which turns a wipe-down into a control panel replacement.
- Over-the-range appliances are mounted at head height above a cooktop, so any removal needs two people and a plan.
- This fault can be confused with a control board failure, which leads to replacing a much costlier part than a membrane.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
