What E215 Means

E215 means the lower cavity of a Bosch double oven exceeded its allowable temperature while the door was unlocked, so the oven stopped heating and locked that door itself. Heating resumes, the latch releases and the error clears when the temperature comes back into range. Bosch's action list names element operation, sensor resistance and stuck relays, which together describe a cavity that heated when nothing asked it to.

Common Causes of E215

  • Heating relay for the lower cavity welded closed
  • Lower cavity sensor reading low so the control keeps calling for heat
  • Element fault producing uncontrolled heating

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the whole oven off at the breaker, not just at the controls. A stuck heating relay keeps an element energised no matter what the panel shows, and on a double oven that element is in the cavity you cannot easily see into.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The oven locked its own door because the cavity was outside safe range, which makes the inner door and glass extremely hot.
  • A relay stuck closed cannot be stopped from the front panel, which is why the breaker is the correct response.
  • Both cavities share a control module, so a relay fault on one side is a reason to distrust the appliance as a whole until it is checked.
  • Restarting to see whether it repeats risks uncontrolled heating in a kitchen nobody is watching.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E215 FAQ

The lock is the oven's protective response to a cavity above its allowable temperature. It is the same latch used for self-clean, applied here for safety.

Not advisable until the shared control module has been checked, since a stuck relay is one of the documented causes.
