What E201 Means
E201 is the lower-cavity form of the open temperature sensor fault on a Bosch double wall oven. The service manual states the convention directly: codes beginning with E1 belong to the single or upper cavity, codes beginning with E2 to the lower cavity. The lower cavity's sensor has gone open circuit, so that cavity stops heating and its cooling fan runs at high speed while the upper oven is unaffected.
Common Causes of E201
- Lower cavity temperature probe failed open
- Sensor connector at the lower cavity unplugged or corroded
- Broken wire in the lower cavity sensor harness
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Test the other cavity. If the upper oven heats and holds temperature normally while the lower one does not, that confirms the fault is confined to the lower cavity and saves the technician a step.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a double oven the two cavities share one control module, so a fault that looks confined to one half can still involve the shared board.
- The lower cavity sensor connector is at the back of a stacked appliance, and getting to it means moving considerably more weight than a single oven.
- Bosch's resistance test compares against a published figure, and the result decides between a sensor and a control module.
- A probe refitted at a different depth in the cavity wall reads differently even when the part is new.
