What E044 Means
E044 concerns the touch control module, the board behind the glass control panel. At start-up the control module tries to write an option code into that board, and E044 means it could not. Bosch lists the causes as a bad touch control module or bad connections to it, and notes that a reset is required to clear the error once it has been logged.

- Connection between control module and touch control module loose or damaged
- Touch control module failing to accept the option code
- Option code not correctly set after a previous board replacement
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the oven down at the breaker for two minutes, since the manual states a reset is needed before this code will clear. If it reappears immediately at start-up, the write really is failing rather than having glitched once.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Bosch's own sequence works through the connections at both ends before condemning either board, and those connectors are behind the control panel of a built-in appliance.
- The final step, if connections are good, is replacing the front panel assembly, which is one of the more expensive parts in the oven.
- Setting the option code correctly is a service-mode procedure with a model-specific value, not a user setting.
- Repeated resets to make the display look normal can hide a connection that is arcing intermittently behind the panel.
