What E:11 Means
E:11 is the first stage of Bosch's overheating detection, described in the manual as fluffing level 1. It is recorded when the burner temperature climbs more than eight degrees Celsius within five seconds, once. The cause given in the fault table is lint and blocked air routes: the fluff filter, the lint container or the air passages themselves. It is a warning that airflow is tightening rather than a failure of a part.
Common Causes of E:11
- Lint filter or filter housing restricted
- Lint container or internal air routes partly blocked
- Exhaust run too long or restricted at the outside flap
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the lint filter and its housing thoroughly, including the recess the filter drops into, and check that the exterior vent flap opens fully when the dryer runs. Catching it at this stage is what stops it becoming a shutdown code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- This code is stored rather than displayed during drying, so it is often found only after a technician reads the memory, by which time the restriction has had months to build.
- A temperature rise that fast means heat is not being carried away, and the components it is building up around are not designed for it.
- Reaching the internal air routes means opening the cabinet next to the heating system, which has to be isolated before anything is touched.
- Bosch's note is that these codes clear automatically after eight fault-free drying cycles, so resetting the machine proves nothing about whether the cause is gone.
