What E:03 Means
E:03 is what a Bosch dryer shows when a load finishes without reaching the dryness it was asked for, or when the cycle has simply taken too long to get there. The causes listed in the repair instruction are all things that slow drying down: a dirty moisture sensor, a blocked or over-long exhaust duct, a dirty filter, laundry that went in far too wet, and a programme that does not suit the load.

- Moisture sensor strips coated with detergent or softener residue
- Exhaust duct partly blocked or longer than the allowed run
- Laundry loaded too wet, or a programme that does not match the load
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the moisture sensor, which is the pair of metal strips just to the left of the lint screen, with a soft cloth and a little white vinegar to lift the detergent film off. Then clean the filter, and spin the next load at a higher speed in the washer before it goes in.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Scrubbing the sensor strips with anything abrasive takes off the surface they rely on, turning an easy clean into a parts order.
- The same list of causes covers a simple maintenance job and a duct restriction that is also a fire risk, and only one of them is fixed at the front of the machine.
- Shortening an exhaust duct or changing its route is work that affects where hot, moist air ends up, and getting it wrong vents it into a wall cavity.
- If cleaning the sensor and the filter changes nothing, the next checks are inside the cabinet next to the heating circuit.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
