What E:01 Means
E:01 is Bosch's overheating code and its documented cause is airflow. The repair instruction states directly that this appears when the dryer runs too hot because the lint filter or the exhaust vent duct is clogged, and the overheating section adds that it is triggered by the burner or lint-screen temperature sensor. The manual's own first response is to stop the dryer immediately, not to restart it.
Common Causes of E:01
- Lint filter clogged, including the invisible film left by fabric softener sheets
- Exhaust vent duct blocked, crushed or longer than the maximum allowed
- Exterior vent flap jammed shut or obstructed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Stop the dryer at once and open the door before doing anything else, then pull the lint filter, clean it and let the machine cool. Bosch's written sequence is exactly that: stop, open, clean the filter, allow the dryer to cool, then restart on the cycle you want.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Restricted dryer airflow is a recognised cause of house fires, so this is the code to stop for rather than reset around.
- A filter that looks clean can still be sealed by a fine film from softener sheets, which Bosch says to wash off by hand with dish soap and water.
- If the filter and the visible duct are clear, the restriction is further along the run and needs equipment to reach, not a vacuum at the wall.
- Working inside the cabinet to check the temperature sensors means being next to the heating circuit, which has to be isolated first.
