The SHP78DM5N is the newer D-generation of the 800 Series pocket-handle machine at 42 dBA and 16 place settings with CrystalDry. Bosch refreshes these platforms by letter rather than by wholesale redesign, so the C and D builds share the great majority of their hardware. Where they can differ is in the control board and its firmware, which matters if a board is being replaced – the wrong generation will physically fit and then behave oddly, so the serial plate governs rather than the family name.
