What dF Means
dF on a Bosch French door refrigerator is the freezer door switch fault. The repair manual lists it as a defective F-door switch, with the trigger being the control sensing that door open for more than one hour. On a bottom-freezer design this is most often a drawer that has not been pushed fully closed rather than a failed component.
Common Causes of dF
- Freezer drawer not closing fully because of contents fouling the runners
- Freezer door switch failed or sticking
- Drawer runners worn so the drawer no longer seats
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Pull the freezer drawer right out and check the runners and the basket for a bag or a box that has fallen behind and is stopping it closing. Then push it firmly shut and confirm the seal touches all the way round.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An hour of open freezer door puts warm air onto the evaporator, which frosts the coil and leads to a cooling complaint after the door fault is fixed.
- The switch is in the cabinet frame near the drawer mechanism, where the wiring is routed through the hinge area.
- Drawer runner adjustment on a bottom-freezer design is fiddly, and a misaligned drawer never seals however hard it is pushed.
- Replacing a switch that was only reporting a genuinely open drawer means paying for a part that was working.
