What E106 Means

E106 on a Bosch range means the oven door latch was asked to lock and the control could not confirm that it did. Bosch gives the timing plainly: no lock within one minute and further attempts stop. The error cancels when a locked door is no longer needed, which is why it usually shows itself at the start of a self-clean cycle that then abandons itself.

Common Causes of E106

  • Spill residue stopping the door closing fully square
  • Latch motor or its switch failed
  • Wiring fault between the control module and the latch

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Look along the oven door gasket and into the latch recess for baked-on spill, which on a range is common because the door sits low and catches everything. Make sure nothing on the racks holds the door a fraction open.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The latch assembly sits in the range frame behind the fascia, and on a gas model the appliance gas valve must be shut off before working in that area.
  • Bosch eliminates the latch motor, its switch, the wiring and the door switch in order rather than replacing on a hunch.
  • Forcing a latch bends the strike plate, after which the door no longer seals for ordinary baking either.
  • Self-clean depends on this latch, so it is not a cycle to run as a test on a latch that has already failed once.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E106 FAQ

Usually yes, since ordinary baking does not lock the door and Bosch clears the error when a lock is no longer required.

That is the only time the range asks the latch to work. A failing latch stays invisible during normal cooking.
