What E044 Means
E044 on a Bosch range means the control module could not write its option code into the touch control module at start-up. Bosch attributes it either to a failing touch control board or to bad connections to it, and notes that a reset is required to clear the error once it is logged. The final step in the manual, if the connections check out, is replacing the front panel assembly.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Power the range down at the breaker for two minutes, since the manual calls for a reset before this clears. If it reappears at every start-up, the write really is failing and the connections behind the fascia need checking.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The check sequence covers connections at both ends before either board is condemned, and those connectors sit behind the fascia of an appliance that has to be drawn forward.
- On a gas range the fascia is directly above the valve manifold, so shut the gas off at the appliance valve before removing anything there.
- The end point of Bosch's own sequence is a front panel assembly, which is among the more expensive parts in the range.
- Repeated resets to clear the display can mask a connector that is arcing intermittently out of sight.
