If your Bosch cooktop displays “dE” and none of the zones will heat, don’t panic — this almost always means the cooktop is stuck in demonstration (showroom) mode, not experiencing a hardware failure.
Why This Happens
Demo mode is a factory setting used in showrooms so customers can interact with the controls without the cooktop actually heating. It can be triggered accidentally during a settings change, or left active on a newly installed unit that came from a display model.
Step 1: Check Your Owner’s Manual
The exit sequence varies by model but is usually a specific button-and-timer combination — commonly holding a particular zone control for several seconds within a set window after powering on.
Step 2: Try a Full Power Reset
If you can’t locate the exact sequence, switch off power to the cooktop at the breaker for two minutes. In some cases this alone resolves it, though not always for true demo-mode lockouts.
Step 3: Call for a Quick Fix
If you can’t find the sequence for your specific model, we can walk you through it over the phone in many cases, or handle it during a quick visit — this is one of the fastest, lowest-cost service calls we handle. Visit our cooktop repair page for more.
