Why Is My Bosch Refrigerator Not Cooling?

A refrigerator that's running but not getting cold is one of the most urgent appliance faults — here's what typically causes it and how fast you need to act.

A refrigerator that hums along normally but doesn’t actually get cold is one of the most stressful appliance faults, because the clock starts running on everything inside it. Before you start moving groceries to a cooler, here’s how to narrow down what’s actually wrong.

Check the Basics First

Confirm the temperature control hasn’t been accidentally bumped to a warmer setting, and check that the condenser coils (usually at the back or bottom of the unit) aren’t caked in dust, which can meaningfully reduce cooling efficiency.

Sensor Faults Are the Most Common Cause

If the basics check out, a failed temperature sensor is the most frequent culprit we diagnose. This shows up as an E01 or E02 error code on models with a display, and causes the control board to lose accurate temperature feedback even though the compressor may still be running.

Control Board and Compressor Issues

Less commonly, the main control board itself fails (often showing E10), or the sealed refrigeration system develops a fault that requires an EPA-certified technician to diagnose and repair.

How Urgent Is This?

Treat a non-cooling refrigerator as a same-day priority. Most refrigerators hold safe temperature for a few hours after a failure, but that window closes fast. See our full refrigerator repair page or call us directly for priority same-day dispatch.

Not Confident Doing This Yourself?

A factory-trained technician can diagnose and fix it safely, usually same-day.
