What Er:06 Means
Er:06 on a Bosch front-load washer is the shorted version of the temperature sensor fault: instead of reading nothing, the circuit reads as a dead short. Bosch's documented causes are a damaged NTC or a short circuit in its cable, and the remedies are to rectify the cable short or replace the sensor. A shorted sensor reads as an impossibly high temperature, so the control refuses to heat.

- Sensor cable shorted against the tub or chassis
- Corrosion bridging the sensor terminals

No safe home measurement exists here. What helps is noting whether the machine refuses to heat at all rather than heating inconsistently, since a shorted sensor produces a clean refusal rather than erratic behaviour.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A short in a cable running beside the heating element is worth tracing properly rather than working around.
- The sensor and the element share a mounting at the bottom of the tub where water and detergent residue collect.
- Bosch's remedy list puts the cable before the sensor, and a new sensor fitted to a shorted cable behaves exactly like the old one.
- The rear panel has to come off with the machine pulled out, and on a stacked or built-under installation that is a two-person job.
