What F Means
On the older Bosch dishwasher generation that shows a two-digit display, a lone F is the water filling fault. Bosch's service documentation defines it as covering four situations at once: the machine is not filling, it is overfilling, it is underfilling, or there is water in the base. The manual also records that this code cannot be cleared by hand, which is why pressing buttons does not make it go away.
Common Causes of F
- Blocked inlet screen or a partly closed supply valve causing underfill
- Inlet valve passing water and overfilling the machine
- Water collecting in the base pan from a leak
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the dishwasher's water supply valve under the sink first, because water in the base is one of the four meanings and an open supply keeps feeding it. Then check the inlet hose for a kink and rinse the filter screen in the hose coupling.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- One of the four documented meanings is water in the base, and a machine that keeps being restarted while that is true will keep collecting water under the cabinet.
- Bosch notes that this code will not reset by hand, so anyone who tells you it clears with a button sequence is describing a different machine.
- These are the dishwashers that are now fifteen to twenty years old, where the original float switch and inlet valve have both had a long life and either can be the cause.
- Telling a genuine leak from a stuck float needs the machine drawn out, and a built-in unit is screwed to the counter and cabinetry.
